June 2026 Highlights Community, Men's Health, Pride, and Preventive Care
June is a month of connection, celebration, and health awareness as Outreach Community Health Centers continues its mission of improving health outcomes and strengthening communities across Milwaukee.
Throughout the month, we recognize Men's Health Month, Pride Month, and Juneteenth while highlighting the importance of preventive care, behavioral health, and equitable access to healthcare for all.
Men's Health Month serves as an important reminder that preventive care saves lives. Regular checkups, screenings, and conversations with healthcare providers can help identify concerns early and improve long-term health outcomes.
In Wisconsin, men continue to experience higher rates of chronic disease and shorter life expectancy than women. Conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and certain cancers often have better outcomes when detected and treated early.
Outreach encourages men of all ages to prioritize their health by scheduling annual wellness visits, managing chronic conditions, and addressing both physical and mental health needs.
Listen in as Community Heartbeat Show host, Ebony Ssali, guides conversation with healthcare professionals and community leaders about the resources available through Outreach and the importance of establishing trusted healthcare relationships before health concerns become emergencies.

Outreach Community Health Centers applauds our very own Dr. Rene Settle-Robinson, a 2024 Healthy Climate Wisconsin’s Environmental Justice Changemaker Awardee. The award recognizes an individual who has worked tirelessly to advance environmental justice and create a Wisconsin where all ages, races, genders, and abilities can live a thriving, vibrant life. She received her acknowledgment at the annual Healthy Climate Wisconsin awards ceremony on November 15 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Congratulations Dr. Settle-Robinson for continuing to advocate for the health and wellness of all in our community.

State and local leaders encourage consumers to take advantage of local help and new insurance plans, lower prices on HealthCare.gov.
On Tuesday, November 12, the Milwaukee Enrollment Network (MKEN) and Covering Wisconsin welcome state and local leaders to kick off the 2024-2025 HealthCare.gov Marketplace Open Enrollment Season, mobilize key community-based organizations, and reinforce the continued work to do while celebrating the post-Medicaid Unwinding milestones. Open Enrollment Season runs from November 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025. Honored guests will share key successes from last year’s enrollment season, information about why insurance coverage is important, and how residents can get or stay connected to Marketplace or Medicaid coverage. With nearly 70,000 people without insurance in Milwaukee County, it is critical that the public understand the different coverage options, how to sign up for health insurance coverage, and all the ways help is available to support maintaining or enrolling in health coverage.

These health facilities work together with great partners such as Ascension, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield and Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin.

The next phase has begun on the construction of a four-story addition to Outreach Community Health Centers – an addition that will expand the clinic’s ability to serve its patients, particularly people experiencing homelessness.
Outreach Community is one of five Federally Qualified Health Centers, or FQHCs, in the county. These are clinics designed and funded to work with people who are uninsured or underinsured.

MILWAUKEE — During the winter, the number of homeless individuals sleeping on the streets of Milwaukee decreases significantly.
Jovonte Kendrick is a street outreach worker for Community Health Centers. He said not everyone has a place to go when temperatures drop.
“I am just trying to see if he’s … is he breathing,” said Kendrick when checking on a man curled up in a sleeping bag in the doorway of a Milwaukee storefront.
Outreach Community Health Centers outreach team comprises three people: street outreach worker Jovonte Kendrick, street outreach case manager Stacey Polley and the lead team member Sarelle Joiner.
Every Friday morning from 2 a.m.-6 a.m., the team takes to the streets trying to reach those that most would consider unreachable.
“We find people sleeping in their cars, abandoned houses, doorways of businesses and sometimes they can be in bus shelters,” said Joiner.
Those experiencing homelessness are asked to call 211 and tell them where they are sleeping outside.

MILWAUKEE — Betty has been living on the streets of Milwaukee with her boyfriend for two years.

Most people struggling with homelessness also struggle with substance abuse and mental health
Officials said some would rather live on the streets than live in housing
Outreach Community Health Centers works directly with those living on the streets to find them longterm care and help
“We had a house fire a year and a half, maybe two years ago and we lost everything,” said Betty, a pseudonym being used in place of her real name to protect her identity.
For the last few months, Betty has been living in a tent at the Holt Avenue Park and Ride along with 15 other people.
“We came here because recently, we met with Street Angels and they told us we needed to stay in one place to get help with housing,” said Betty.

Episode 1 (2025): Julia Harris-Robinson President & CEO and Dr. Sushania Pryce, Family Medicine Resident
Dr. Pryce is a 2nd year resident at the North Side Milwaukee Health Centers Family Medicine Residency Program and is currently one of the chief residents.
Harris-Robinson’s commitment to Federally Qualified Health Centers spans more than 25 years, demonstrating her deep understanding of the community’s needs and the imperative to address social determinants of health.
Over the last 40 years, our programs have grown to provide a strong continuum of services that respond to the whole life needs of our patients and clients, and deliver those services at five locations in Milwaukee. primary care services include: adult chronic disease management, COVID-19 vaccination, dental care services, immunizations, prenatal care and child care coordination, on-site lab services, in-house pharmacy, OB/GYN, podiatry, telehealth, and well-child visits.
While the residency will be seeing patients and receiving training at Outreach Community Health Centers, it also leverages the expertise of the family medicine faculty of MCW and partners with Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin for required hospital rotations.
All major insurances accepted. A sliding fee schedule is available for low-income and/or uninsured patients.
